Welcome to Freebie Friday! Did you know that October 30, the day before Halloween, is known as Mischief Night? According to tradition, preteens and teenagers are known to play pranks on their neighbors as a way to kick off the Halloween festivities. Common pranks include soaping car windows, egging houses, adorning trees with toilet paper and running away after ringing doorbells.
While it always stinks to be on the receiving end of a prank, it sure is fun to pull a harmless prank every now and then – especially around the spookiest time of the year. {Disclaimer: If you are a teenager reading this right now, please don’t tell your mother that I said it was okay to egg your next door neighbor’s house. If you choose to be mischievous, be prepared to accept the consequences for getting caught!}
In the mood for some mischievous cards? I recently came across these two Halloween cards from Paper Crafts Go-to Gal Maren Benedict. Featured in Card Creations, Volume 7, they both scream mischief and fun. Leave a comment telling me a mischievous prank you’ve pulled in your life. I’ll randomly select three winners to take home Cosmo Cricket’s Haunted collection – the same collection Maren used on these fun cards. All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Sunday, Nov. 1.

Maren Benedict's Spooky and Goofy Pumpkins Card from Card Creations, Vol. 7.
Speaking of mischief…our art director Matt has definitely been up to no good. Apparently all the long hours in his dark laboratory (office) have finally taken its toll. He now grunts when asked a question and lately there seems to be a lot of steam coming out of his head. To make matters even worse, he’s now taken up with seven crazy women! (well, nine if you count our impressionable interns!) Yes, Matt has become the misunderstood Frankenstein and we are his seven brides. How’s that for a team costume?!
Look for a special blog post tomorrow, where I’ll reveal pictures from our day at the office as Mrs. Matt Anderson. (Hopefully the real Mrs. Anderson is a good sport!) Congrats go out to Ellie Augustin (Sept. 22, 6:14 a.m.)! Even though we didn’t exactly go with her “Count Dracula/Vixen” idea (from Jennifer’s Merry Hallowistmas! post), she definitely inspired us to go down to the monster path. Ellie, I’ll be contacting you shortly to discuss your fun prize!
Here’s to having fun (and being safe!) on Mischief Night!
Kelly

We used to do all that stuff as kids, but never destroyed anyones property. We did it at the park, and when we were done having our fun, we “patroled” the streets to make sure no “outsiders” were doing what we didnt do…lol

When I was younger, we were doing some mischief, toilet papering I believe. And we got caught. We were hiding in the bushes and a car, turns and shines there lights right on us. Then they just drove off, but it scared us for sure.

Me and some friends snuck into the bathroom while another friend was taking a hot shower and poured pitchers of cold water on them! It was hilarious….needless to say the rest of us started locking the bathroom door for a while!

In college, I turned everything on my roommate’s side of the room upside down. Well, not everything, but enough things that she could tell that something was off, but not quite sure what–pictures in frames, notes on the bulletin board, bottles on the dresser. It was so funny when she finally figured out what was going on, and even funnier when she was still finding things a month later.

When we lived in our old house there was a little alcove at the end of the kitchen counter around the corner. Just enough room for one person to stand in. I would wait for my husband to come around the corner and I would jump out at him. Boo! He would jump out of his skin and I would roll on the floor laughing. I did this so many times that he got wise and would look around the corner every time he came through the kitchen, looking to see if I was waiting there to scare the pants off of him. After I noticed his tendency to do this and laughed whole heartedly about it several times, I devised a plan. When I knew he was coming through the kitchen I waited in the pantry watching to see him peek around the corner looking for me in the usual spot. As he leaned forward to look I jumped out behind him, Boo! he spun around so fast he nearly fell over with both fists up like he was going to fight off the devil. We both laughed good over that one and still do to this day. I don’t jump out from hiding places anymore because I don’t think I could ever top that last one. LOL.
Happy Halloween everyone! I can’t wait to see picks of the group costume you guys came up with.

I’m a little disappointed…. I was hoping to see Matt as Snow White and the girls as the 7 dwarves
Maybe next year.
When I was a teen, my friends and I stuck 300 plastic forks, a ton of those election lawn signs and plastic flamingos in our Sunday School teachers front yard. The real kicker is that her neighbors were quite snobby with very ridiculous HOA rules.

I think the worst I have done is toilet papering the neighborhood at night with my friends when I was a kid. Although we used a little more than toilet paper. We had all the supplies, eggs, jelly, whipping cream, silly string ect. It was so much fun being a kid!

It wasn’t usually for Halloween pranks, but around Aprils Fool’s Day, my brothers and I would put those pull poppers on EVERY door we could find a way to attach them (including mail box AFTER mail lady had gone by… no federal charges please!). We would also sneak into my parents bathroom and plastic saran the toilet, thou my dad usually noticed before using the restroom… I did go on an egging adventure once, but was to Chicken to throw any!

LOL! I cannot WAIT to see those photos! You guys are too fun! These are great projects, too! As far as mischievous pranks go….we did a big elaborate thing in college where a banner dropped down right in the middle of chapel…only….it sort of fell early and got all screwed up, so basically, it was more of a prank fail! LOL! It was way fun getting it all together, though! LOL!

In high school, we forked someone’s yard (marshmellows and plastic forks). It was hysterical. Luckily, we knew the kid and family really well that they thought it was funny, too!

WHAT A GREAT QUESTION! The worst thing I did was (I was just hanging out with my older brother and his older friends) tag along when these boys put M80s in pumpkins (on peoples’ porches!) to blow them up. It was great fun, but it didn’t occur to us that these poor people would have to clean pumpkin off of the entire front of their house! If I could rewind my life…….

I think the worst prank I ever played on someone was when they were sleeping…I put shaving cream on their hand and then tickled their nose with a feather. The resulting shaving cream on the face was pretty funny! But in general, I’m not much of a prankster.

Ok, I think I have dementia. I can’t remember pulling a prank. I was always afraid I’d get caught. Pitiful, huh? Anyways, great costume idea and can’t wait to see the pix. Love the cards by Maren too and the paper, of course!

There was this time when myself & some friends put several bags of shredded paper in a friend’s car. Then there was the time we rolled our middle school. This was all back in the 70’s when it was harmless fun. Thanks for the opportunity.

Some friends and I toilet papered one of their boyfriend’s houses once. Just a little here and there, but we felt so guilty about our little prank, we went straight home and made him brownies! He didn’t seem to mind the toilet paper, after he got the brownies, go figure.

In middle school my friends and I egged a dancing school. We thought we were so slick….until we got CAUGHT!!! Yep, and our parents made us go and clean everything up!!! Let me tell ya…cleaning up old, dried up egg is absolutely disgusting—-it smells so bad and it takes a lot of elbow grease to get it to come off. I definitely learned a hard lesson from that prank!!

omg – these will be some wild and crazy pictures!!
in high school youth group, we took a trip and I led the gang of girls in hiding all of the boys luggage. little did we know that the leader’s bags were part of that, which included all of the emergency slips and extra $$. he was not happy to find everything missing…… so of course I had to step forward in front ot the entire group and admit what I had done… oh well, it was funny while we were doing it.

Oh, the pranks we’ve done! As a teenager we did our share of toilet papering the trees and ‘borrowing’ for sale signs and putting them in different yards. Fun times! By the way, we work in an office with 1 guy and 7 gals and today we are dressed up as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. (Our token male is of course Snow White!)
Happy Halloween!!!

Am a complete goody two shoes. Beyond the basic high school TPing, I can’t think of any pranks I’ve participated in. Although my husband may consider the way that I use the computer to be mischievous.

A friend and I were bored at work one day and decided to pull a prank on a co-worker. We looked up the number for the local zoo and told the guy that a Mr. Lyon had called for him. He took the message to his desk to return the call and we were watching him from our customer service window. As soon as the lady on the other end of the phone said “… Zoo” he knew what we had done. He told the lady he had the wrong number and hung up. My friend and I couldn’t contain our giggles anymore and he heard us. “Very Funny” he said dryly and that put us into 5 minutes of hysterical laughing. We did that to several co-workers for about a week…alternating between Mr. Lyon and Mr. Behr.

I haven’t done any note-worthy mischievous stuff, but a friend of mine in middle school had a great prank. She lived in a house that had a balcony on the second floor over the front door. When trick-or-treaters would come to the front door to get candy from her dad, she would make a blood-curtling scream and drop a dummie hanging from a rope tied to the balcony. It scared so many people, including me when it happened. haha

One boring summer night, my girlfriends and I got into some unlocked neighbors cars, put them in neutral and pushed them to another neighbor’s driveway. These were the days, when people left their cars unlocked, there were no alarms on cars, no steering wheel locks. We pushed the cars to a neighbor’s driveway – this neighbor got up at 5:00 a.m. to go to work. What a surprise for him when he came out and saw 4 additional cars in his driveway. I kind of felt bad about it after, but it sure was fun while we were doing it.

We were babysitting for some friends for their anniversary and they were planning a romantic meal at home. After they were home, we duct taped their doors shut so they couldn’t get out.

I never did anything mischievous really….but my Granny ALWAYS loved when we would TP her house. She has 38+ grandchildren….so we would really TP her house! Two things I loved about it::: 1. She would supply us with the toilet paper and 2. She sometimes would buy the colored toilet paper! AWESOME:)

One of the simplest pranks…. use glue dots to attach the handset of the phone to the base of all of your coworkers phones, then call them and watch them try to pick up the phone. Classic.

Growing up living in a small town…..on the 30th a large group of us friends would get together in our “downtown” (it really is a very small one main stop sign town) and play some games of “MANHUNT”. The park pavillion was base, anywhere from 5 – 10 people were “it” and the rest went to hide somewhere within the town limits. After 30 min. those that didn’t make it to base were gathered by spotlight & a pickup truck and headed back to base. Then we would start again… What a great way to “stay out of trouble” but still have a ton of fun!!!!

When I was in college, we took an open can of tuna fish and hid it on the 2nd floor of the girls dorm (We were kind of in a prank war with them). I don’t know if they ever found it….I think they did get us back by putting goldfish in our shared bathroom upstairs.

No prank, but I did Trick-or-Treat in college b/c one of the girls on our dorm floor was from Africa and had never gone. Can you imagine? Never having gone Trick-or-Treating? We got a few odd looks, but when we explained ourselves, most people were really nice. Some people even gave us beer instead of candy.

In college my roommate and I lived in an old historic dormitory. There was a huge fig bush right outside our window, and its branches touched the wide windowsill. One rainy winter morning we opened up the blinds and there was a big fat opossum sitting on our windowsill to stay dry. He turned and hissed at my roommate, whose bed was right beside the window–and she was startled SO badly–jumped right out of her skin! Nothing we could do would make him go away–and since the panes on the glass were old we didn’t want to bang on them for fear they’d break and he’d waddle in onto her bed. I just laughed… but my roomie was SO not amused at the time. He came back a few times after that until the grounds crews caught him–hasta la vista.
Not too long after that I was at home for the weekend and, lo, and behold, I found at Goodwill a stuffed armadillo with my brother–but it looked REMARKABLY like a fat old possum. Having grown up with BoyScout brothers and knowing how to rig a good trap nearly worthy of the A-Team, my plan was as follows:
1) It is now spring and Bethany likes to leave the window partly open; for the Mr. Opossum has not been seen for quite awhile.
2) Bethany returns from class, opens the door, and a string rigged from the door over a rod and across the room to her bed (and the open window) pulls out from under her bed…
3) …A rushing gray “opossum” towards her!!
Alas, I was not there to see the outcome of my evil-genius plan firsthand. Luckily my roomie was a great sport, and the armadillo became our “pet” after that. And she got me back pretty daggum well, too.
Fun memories! Have enjoyed reading everyone else’s also!
Have a great day,

Growing up in the woods, we had persimmon trees around us. If you eat a persimmon when it is not perfectly ripe, however, the alum will make you PUCKER–and I do mean PUCKER!!!
We moved and my bros and I were taking a walk with another friend who was a big time Star-wars and computer guy. Not much into woodsy stuff. I saw a persimmon tree by the side of the road; some of its fruit was ready, and some still not quite. I said to our friend, “Hey, have you ever had a persimmon?” He said no, so I picked him one. He tasted, puckered and spit it out. I apologized profusely and we all laughed.
Further on we saw another tree. I said, “Here, this one looks better–I’ll take a bite from this side to make sure it’s OK, then you can try the other side.” Being a game soul he agreed.
I knew what was coming and hid the inevitable distress I had just put my tastebuds through. Our friend, who was watching MY reaction closely, and now thinking this was a good one–took a BIG bite out of the other side and My Goodness, was it ever funny!!! He’s a big prankster himself so he took it all in great stride, and we laughed about it for years afterward.

I was never one to play pranks as I was too shy and scared of getting caught. I do remember the class deciding to hide a vibrating spider in a teacher’s drawer which almost gave her a heart attack (apparently she had one before which we were not aware of). As a class we were all punished. I prefer the kind of prank where no one is really hurt or left with a mess to clean up.

Oh my goodness, I think I’ve only played one prank in my life, and it was SO juvenile! My best friend and I left something like 37 one-word messages on this boy’s answering machine so that it spelled out something really cheesy and ridiculous (we were in the 4th grade!) Of course, at the time, we thought it was the funniest thing on the planet!

Hmmm…mischievous prank… the only thing I can come up with right now is this past April Fool’s it snowed the night before and I was at work that night and so me and a few others pulled out some of the Christmas Decorations to decorate our hallway for the next day. Some people got it, some people smiled, some were baffled. =)

I did some toilet papering to a car once with my roommate while on internship to get back at a new friend for picking on our school. He thought his school was so much better! Ha! We proceeded to toilet paper his car a few days before Halloween, but we were definitely not pros as we didn’t bring nearly enough toilet paper or a camera with us. So we left the job half done and went back for more. We come back but there’s a white car parked next to our friends and from a distance it looks like a cop car. We freak out and never come back to finish it. Luckily it wasn’t a cop car, just another friend visiting and they point out our work to our friend and he thinks its all in fun and takes pictures. He knew it was us. We remained friends but then always played pranks on each other. My partner in crime and him eventually got together, so you could say that this prank was the start of a great marriage.

A friend and I went to work early and got the BIG water bottle off the water dispenser at work (luckily it was just about empty!) We put 5 or 6 goldfish in the NEW bottle before loading it on the dispenser. I don’t know how many people got water out and drank f it before they saw the fish! The good news is the fish survived and no one got sick!!! (Thank goodness!)

My college roomates and I ran a bedsheet sized flag up a 45 foot flag pole in front of my brother-in-laws office with “Happy 40th” painted in black the night before his 40th birthday. We also saran-wrapped his doors, mummified his car with TP (completely—very completely, like even the undercarriage—and yes, it was a total pain). Imagine his shock when the entire town of aobut 25,000 woke up to view this humongous flag boasting this 40th birthday! (and, yes, my sister was in on the gag and took the scrapbook photos.)

I pulled a pretty great prank once a few winters back when I was in college. I was hanging out with friends at the dorms. At my school the boys doors opened up to the outside. So my friends and I decided to block our friends door with snow. We got the recycling bins packed them in with snow and blocked his door. Then we put Cinnamon heart candies in it and it made it look like blood it was quite gross. We also packed the snow good around the door. At the time we were doing this our friend was in class so he returned to his room and was not able to get in right away. He was in good spirits about it and laughed. I can tell you it took him awhile to get back into his room.

Cute stuff. No pranks for me. I will be in bed early and my step kids are at their moms. my husband is taking my oldest to Haunted Palouse though. These are great. I had so much fun reading everyone’s pranks. Mine is not as hilarious as some but my little girl and I got a good laugh out of it. My husband is deadly afraid of snakes so one night we hid a plastic one under his pillow. You should have heard him scream. It was priceless. I don’t know what was funnier–my husband screaming or our daughter laughing hysterically. Great thing to teach your child when she is 6.

A prank I’ve pulled???!!! Oh my goodness, I’m so boring! I cannot think of a single one right now. (At least I hope its “right now” and that I’m drawing a blank…or else I’m more than boring!!!) I do remember my brother T.P.’ing (until we got hit and Mom made him clean it all up himself), I remember Mom telling us there was a parade coming down our street complete with elephants one April Fools when we were young, and I remember (and have photos to boot) my grown brother drawing pictures on my sleeping Aunt’s face last Christmas…..but, no tales of my own to share. Oh how sad is that! I must come up with something pronto!! :>

the best prank we did was during my highschool years. We somehow managed to take a full case of tp from our highschool and plastered the very woodsy and tree-filled yard of a class mate that my friend had a huge crush on. It took us almost an hour to tp the yard at 2:00 in the morning. On a school night. We were practically caught by the police car that kept cruising back and forth but never caught us as we hid behind the trunk of one of the trees as the car slowly crept from left to right…we were scared because whenever we tried to run back to the car the cop would come back!!!! lol

When I was in high school, one of my teacher’s always told us to pick a penny up if it was on heads for good luck. So for his birthday, we made a huge cake out of heads-up pennies in the middle of his classroom floor.

My older sister took me out with her friends one time (way back in the 70’s) to soap the neighborhood cars. Sooo fun and we were supposedly being sneaky, but actually I imagine we were giggling and shushing each other way too loudly!

My favorite prank I ever did is when I was a computer maintenance person in the AF. I installed a program on everyone’s computer that would make all of this horrible noise and then blank the screen out with a warning that they had caused a fatal crash the first time they hit return. Computers were new to everyone back then and a lot of people were afraid of them. What was even funnier was when I made a pack with the people that were always rude, mean, or ugly to other people that I would fix it (their computer) and keep it a secret, but they had to start being nicer to everyone or I would tell. I clued the rest of the people in on it after letting them know about the program I had installed. That way they didn’t get mad about the joke I played on them. Would you believe that the unpleasant people started being nice, and I left that assignment without no one the wiser.

I sneak up on my cat and scare him all the time! I’m usually the one getting pranked by other people!

My BFF & I did the old hide the head on a platter trick. I hid on a rolling cart-type thing with a hole in it for my head. Lift the lid and I scream…at least first!!! TOO MUCH FUN!!! Ah..for youth!
