All of us at Paper Crafts eat lunch together every day. When I first started working here I thought this was a bit odd. Okay, maybe odd isn’t the right word. Let’s just say I found this practice to be unexpected.
Prior to working at Paper Crafts, I’d worked for a TV station so lunch time was when everyone would close their office doors and watch the news or the latest episode of Days of Our Lives. I’ll admit to being somewhat sucked into the plot of this cheesy soap opera, but as an excuse I was working for an NBC affiliate and couldn’t very well change the channel! However, now I can’t imagine lunch any other way than with my co-workers and friends.
Today was an extra special lunch because we were able to visit with our cute summer 2008 intern, Ms. Kalyn Kepner. Kalyn is visiting from Pennsylvania and met us for lunch. We all had lots of fun catching up with Kalyn and exchanging our usual team banter.
One particular topic of conversation: Christmas decorations. I typically put up my Christmas decorations days after Halloween. I’m a little crazy like that. In fact, my neighbors’ and friends’ gifts are already purchased and wrapped in their cute kraft and orange packaging. Like I said, I’m Christmas crazy! Jennifer begins setting things out on Nov. 1, but everything isn’t completely Christmas-fied until later in the month. (As a side note, I can hear Christmas music drifting from Jennifer’s office as we speak!) Cath however has strict guidelines and will not put out her holiday decorations until the Thanksgiving feast has been enjoyed by all.
The Paper Crafts offices aren’t decorated yet, but Santa’s elves have been busy snatching up hot pink, lime green and red ornaments. As a team we’re decorating a tree for a fundraiser called the Festival of Trees. We donate a decorated tree that is later auctioned off. All the money earned goes to the patients at a local children’s hospital and the person who purchases the tree gets a one-of-a-kind creation to decorate their home. Here’s a little sneak peek of some of the ornaments we’ve purchased. Stay tuned for a pic of the final product in a few weeks!

I {heart} Christmas…and IKEA!
It seems most people have pretty strong opinions about the whole when-to-decorate topic. So, I’d like to make you all honorary Paper Crafts lunch ladies. If you were eating lunch with us today (which is WAY COOLER than watching Days of Our Lives, by the way), when would you say you begin decorating your abode for the holidays? Leave me a comment and I’ll randomly select one winner to receive this assortment of product generously donated by K&Company. All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

One lucky winner will take home K&Company's Evergreen collection!
Yours in holiday gladness,
Brandy

Love this topic…so true it brings a huge variety of responses with my friends too. I start decorating on Dec 1st OR the closest weekend after that as I work outside of the home and don’t get the time to do it til the weekend arrives. So this year it will be Saturday, Dec 5.

I’ve always been a weekend before christmas person as far as decorating goes, there’s something about decorating the tree with christmas only a few days away that I think is so special.

I don’t start decorating for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. It’s always a tradition to put up the tree that day.

I love to take my time with the holidays so I begin “collecting” my ideas and snippets right after Halloween. But, my true decorating, including lights on the house doesn’t take place until the day after Thanksgiving.

I start decorating the day after Thanksgiving. We have always done it that weekend. However, the gift shopping/gift creating is right up until the last moment.

We put everything out on the day after Thanksgiving (after any necessary shopping, of course!)

One of my favorite traditions (going on now for over 20 years) is going to cut down our Christmas tree the weekend of Thanksgiving. Then on Sunday (we pick the better weather day–Friday or Saturday–for our tree cutting), my husband puts up the tree and lights while I decorate the house. We leave it all up until after New Year’s. LOVE the holidays and decorations!

We generally decorate two weekends before Christmas, and take the decorations the first weekend after New Year’s.

If it was up to me we’d have the decorations out from October till February…
But my DH doesn’t let me take them out till the first advent. It’s okay though, we play Christmas music when ever we feel like it, I’ve even found DH listening to carols by himself in July!!

We’ve made it a tradition with our kids that the weekend after Thanksgiving is the day we go out and get our tree. Once the tree is up the rest of the decorations follow. I love to decorate for Christmas and have been chomping at the bit a little this year, but I know I’d get the crazy looks from my husband if I tried to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving is over.

Ours go up immediately after Thanksgiving… but since we are not hosting the family feast this year, we may put it up a little early:) and Christmas comes down some time after New Years.

Officially, the Friday after Thanksgiving, the outside lights go up. And all the wreaths are hung on the windows/doors. All outside decorations are tended to. Some times inside will get started too. But the tree is generally the first week of December. We always go cut a live tree , so we wait a little to make it last longer. And out wedding anniversary is Dec 8th and this year is our 20th ! Hubster always brings me a big beautiful live poinsettia and that kind of finishes off the decorating ! LOL

Always begin after Thanksgiving; our tree depends on whether it’s real or “Memorex”!!! Not near as exciting to decorate now that both our kids live far out-of-state, so it’s less each year, UNLESS someone is coming home!!! I’m weird in that I need to take it all down & “get back to normal” after the New Year — enough is enough within a short time! Hmmm, maybe I just need some NEW decorations/papercrafting supplies. . . .

I like to decorate the week of Thanksgiving. However my husband thinks we should wait until after December 1st. He would put the tree up Christmas Eve( like we had nothing else to do on that day).

What beautiful ornaments you’ve gathered already!! Love the color scheme! Our tradition is to decorate my tree at home 3 weeks before Christmas. My daughters and their families all come home for a day of decorating, eating and other merriment!

I’m sorry to say that we are last minute decorators! We have a little boy who doesn’t quite “get” the holidays yet, but we hope this year he’ll really be into it! Of course, we leave the decorations up well into FEBRUARY!

I really like to get mu Christmas things out the day after Thanksgiving but the last few years it has been the 2nd weekend in December before I have been able to get it done. I retired this year so am hopeful I will get back to decorating in November.

Well, my dh will not allow Christmas decor until the day after Thanksgiving…if it were up to me, I’d start around the middle of November sot we could all enjoy it longer :0)

Sorry, I’m COMPLETELY in Cath’s camp on this one. Christmas doesn’t start until the day AFTER Thanksgiving! I’m so not a shopper so that’s what the Thanksgiving weekend is all about – putting up the holiday decorations. Thanksgiving is always at our house and it seems a little belittling to the feast to have Christmas already under way. Whatever you do, hope your holidays, including Thanksgiving!, are wonderful!

I’m not sure exactly when we start. It’s usually when I finally convince the husband to drag the Christmas tree out of storage. Then he takes our little one out of the house for an evening for me to decorate the place by myself. We’ll probably start the weekend after Rememberance Day.

The decorations go up sometime after Thanksgiving, and come down by Jan. 1st.

We start the weekend after T-day and add to it up until Christmas day. I love getting cards in the mail and displaying them around the house.

I also don’t start decorating until the day after Thanksgiving, but that’s usually because I can’t seem to find the time before that. If it were up to me, the decorations and lights would stay up all year–I love Christmas that much!

I usually start decorating around December 10th. We won’t be having a tree this year (allergies) so I’ll have to get more creative with the decor.

What a fun subject to discuss! I am a “wait till after Thanksgiving” Christmas decorator. Since we travel to my parents for Christmas week, I like to enjoy the holiday decorations as long as I can!

Growing up, we decorated in December but nothing was finished until Christmas Eve when we put the tree up and decorated it. Once I was on my own, I put my tree up on Thanksgiving as it was an artificial tree and decorated over the course of a week so everything was ready by the first of December (usually). Nowadays, we’ll start to decorate over Thanksgiving weekend and finish up in mid-December with the tree as we are getting a live one this year. I do have Christmas music playing already though.

I got to go with Cath on this one…after Thanksgiving! I may put up the tree (fake one) before Thanksgiving because it takes awhile to get up, but it is not decorated (besides lights) until the weekend after Thanksgiving. I am very jealous of Brandy being nearly done with shopping and wrapping. I have a long way to go and I still have Christmas cards to make!!

I always put up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. And in the days following that I put out Christmas decorations. It is my favorite holiday because I have three children. I love how excited they get!

I love what has already been purchased for the tree that you decorate! Gorgeous!!
I have so much to be thankful for, and I don’t like how Thanksgiving seems to just be completely skipped over!! So, I’m with Cath! I will not put out one Christmas decoration until Thanksgiving is over. I want to be sure to spend time enjoying Thanksgiving!
Have a great week!!

I wait until after Thanksgiving and work like a mad woman getting everything up and in its’ place by December 1st. We always leave the tree last to decorate the night of Dec. 1st with the kids…I go to the kitchen to bake Peppermint Kisses while they start on the tree and we enjoy eating and decorating together. Then we sit back and admire the beauty of work.

Well first if I would have luck w/you guys I would talk my way into getting a tour of the office first! hehehehe… and as far as when I start decorationing actually my kids start it.. which usually is right before Thanksgiving break they bring their first pieces of Holiday Artwork and so that starts the decorations..actually yesterday when I went to the supermarket they had the cutiest little tree but it was too heavy for me to get it myself (had the stroller w/DD) but hubby is off tomorrow so guess my holiday decoration will be starting…………… Tomorrow!

I’m so with Cath on this one. Christmas decorations don’t go up until after Thanksgiving. We usually start with our Dickens Village set the weekend after Thanksgiving and try to get the tree up shortly after that. While I might start with the Christmas music a little before Thanksgiving (I LOVE Christmas music), the decorations have to wait.

I do not decorate until Thanksgiving is over. I got married on Thanksgiving weekend so “passing over” this holiday would be like passing over my anniversary almost. I relish in the joy of celebrating ALL the things I am thankful for, ESPECIALLY my husband!

Although I love Christmas and decorating for it……I don’t usually put out Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. I like to keep out all my fall decor until then. It’s just too much work to switch gears that fast.
I’m feeling the ornaments and deocr you’ve got for your tree so far!! AWESOME stuff!! You all have great taste!!

I decorate at a different time every year. i definitely think you should wait until after thanksgiving, but since papercrafting has taken over my life (in a good way) lots of stuff gets pulled out and used even before then! I also only bring out as many decorations and I think i can handle putting away. i hate when the holiday is over and there is still LOADS of work to be done getting the house back in order. plus its really depressing to go into January with nothing festive on the horizon. so for sure a tree! For sure after thanksgiving so you can enjoy it for a month and for sure get it put away before the first weekend in january!
thanks for the giveaway!

Hi Brandy – we just got our Halloween boxes back into the attic this week… the thought of lugging down the Christmas stuff is too daunting to think about yet – we are like Cath – nothing until Thanksgiving is over – I like to give each holiday their due. Love the new K&Co collection too!

I am on a budget, so I buy all my Christmas decor right after Christmas and save for the following year. ( I bought an 8′ pre lite tree after season last year for $8!). I love the holidays, and love putting up the tree with my little one, but do not start the actual process until after we have our Thanksgiving feast. Last year we didn’t start until Saturday since my in-laws came in for dinner the day after Thanksgiving! I prefer to have that thankful family time before I get into the spirit of Christmas!

It is our Christmas tradition to put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving. That is when all the decorations go up as well. With the exception of Christmas cards, which I start in June, that is when the Christmas holidays start for us. I find myself humming carols after Halloween though, LOL.

I am so in the holiday mood lately. I don’t decorate the house until late November or early December although this year I might do some of it earlier. Not the tree, but maybe some Christmas candles.

Um… as soon as the 140 handmade Christmas cards and baby announcements are done? Oh, wait… that would make it like the week before Christmas, so hopefully sometime before that.

I’m with Cathy on this one. Day after Thanksgiving the decorations will go up. BUT…Christmas shopping and crafting are well under way. As for Christmas music….that starts in October…early October! Love it!! Would play it all year if my family wouldn’t think I had officially lost it!!

Well – I have never been one for Christmas decorating. In fact, before we had children, we rarely even put up the Christmas tree because we traveled to our families homes every year anyway. Our family tradition has been to decorate on my Mom’s birthday – December 3rd. When I was a child, that’s what she always wanted for her birthday . . . the family to spend the day together putting up the tree and decorating the house. Mom passed away this year, but the tradition will continue. I’ll take the day off work, my daughter will stay home from school, and a-decorating we will go

I have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving. My husband says we have to get past Thanksgiving first. If I had my choice, I’d be decorating now. We live in Nebraska and the weather is so unpredictable. You want to take advantage of the nice weather while you. It’s been in the 60’s – 70’s lately and I’ve been wanting to put up the lights outside. He’s making me wait and it will be 20 degrees and I’ll be out there putting up lights. It happens every year!
Anyway, thanks for the chance at a great prize.

I’m with Cath. We host Thanksgiving at our house so Christmas decorations don’t come out until after then. We usually go out to a tree farm the weekend after Thanksgiving to cut down the “perfect” tree then bring it home to decorate. The kids love it!

I usually wait until after Thanksgiving, but I also leave everything up until Epiphany (Jan 6th). We also celebrate St. Nicholas day (Dec 6th), so I like to have things ready by then.
As for your office tree, it looks like it is going to be yummy!
And that K&Company collection – I was just looking at that last night at Michael’s. What lovely goodies!

This is a very touchy subject in our home – my husband’s tradition is to put up the tree and trimmings the day after Thanksgiving; for me, born in South America, this is a big no-no. Our tree and decorations went up on Christmas Eve and we celebrated until January 6th. As the saying goes, you have to pick your battles – our tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving but nothing comes down until January 6th and everybody is happy. Thanks for the chance to win the goodies from K&Co.

with little ones, not school age yet, i put off the Christmas decorations until December, otherwise I would have 2 months of finding decorations all over the house, this way I only have the month of December to find stuff behind the couch…in their beds…in the play kitchen…I think you get what I am saying!

Dec.23. That’s probably what it would be, but my kids take charge the day after Thanksgiving. (They’re considering their tree placement options now.) Surprisingly, they’re not as enthusiastic about taking everything down.

Well we have a couple of birthdays in Nov., so not to distract from their special days, decorating starts the next day after–in our case Nov. 23. I don’t do much because of health issues, but love to put out some favorites.

I wait till after Thanksgiving. I love Fall decorations – pumpkings, leaves, turkeys, etc. I want to enjoy them for the month of November. Then right after the holiday we head into Christmas decor.
PS…that is an awesome package from K&Company and I think I recognize those Inkadinkado stamps!

I like to whip out the tree and box of decorations as soon as December begins. The first weekend in December it is! I’m not much of one who likes to leave the tree up until New Years Day…so I like to have it put up as early in December as possible so that we can enjoy for a whole month. Is it too early to wish everone at Paper Crafts: “H@ppy H0lid@ys!”…enjoy crafting your Christmas tree together.

I invest a lot of time and money into making the house special for the holidays. And, I love the season. So, as soon as Halloween is over, I get into the spirit. I might not get the decorations up right away, since I need help bringing them in, but I get them us as soon as possible after that.

Eating alone is not much fun but I usually watch the news. I have started “decorating” in once sense already, I have started cleaning out areas of the house where I will decorate. Everyday pictures, or the usual candles, etc. are starting to be put away. I am starting to remove clutter, etc. All of this has to happen before I pull out the decorations…so I might as well do it now. Thanks to K & Co for the great giveaway! Have a great week!

I like to put my tree up the day after Thanksgiving. I used to wait until then to listen to Christmas music as well but the past 2 years as long as it is November than I will pop in a Christmas CD if the mood strikes me. This year I plan on putting my tree up on Thanksgiving day though. My husband is deployed so I am making a small dinner for my girls and me then we will decorate the tree….hmm…correction, I will be decorating the tree while my toddlers touch everything. And I wouldn’t have it any other way!

we wait until a few weeks before Christmas – to make it a bit more special and not to ‘old’ by the time the holiday actually arrives. my husband and boys go hunting for a week following Thanksgiving, so that gives me a chance to do some shopping for gifts, decorations, etc. (and of course do lots of papercrafting!!! GRINS!!) while they are gone. when they get back, it is time to get started!
we go out into the woods to a special tree farm to get our tree (complete with horse drawn carriage) so that kicks it all off.

I’m with Cath – not until the day after Thanksgiving. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t plan and create long before that! When presents are made by hand, you must start early. I usually start the week between Christmas and New Years the year before planning all my cards and gifts for the year.

Usually we start decorating after Thanksgiving, but since I’ve been card making I seem to start sneeking out stuff as soon as I start pulling out the Christmas stamps and embellishments – so many ideas abound and visions of sugarplums (glitery ideas) dance in my head. It’s a special time of the year and if it lightens my mood and get me singing Christmas carols, then the decorations are going up early!
Thanks.

I love Fall and the Harvest and Thanksgiving, so currently Harvest theme decorations are up with more added to it each day. I begin to decorate for Christmas right after Thanksgiving. I love Christmas too so the whole house will be decorated and smelling like Christmas by the first week in December! Here’s a secret: I am already making my decorations for Christmas! I can’t wait to start baking!

I start with winter type items the first of November and the trees, one for every room, as soon as the dishes are done from Thanksgiving dinner. The only thing I try desperately to follow is that everything Christmas has to be up before the New Year. My Grandmother was of the mind that you did not let the old year into the new. I loved her dearly and this is the one memory that I have etched in my mind of her making sure all things were packed up.

We start on the weekend when we get our tree. Since we cut down our tree ourselves at a farm, it all depends on when we have a free Saturday. Then it usually takes the entire weekend to get the tree decorated as well as the rest of the house.

I already trying to sneak little things out here and there. Right now I’m mostly getting away with my card making stuff, but have a few other things out. We have started watching Christmas movies already too. We will really start getting all Christmassy Thanksgiving weekend. As soon as the turkey goes in the fridge, up goes the tree and Christmas really begins.

We start decorating on December 9…every single year…lol. My daughter’s Birthday is on December 8th and we don’t want to take away the significance of her birthday by having her party decorations overshadowed by all of the Christmas decorations that we have. The same goes for my son’s Birthday, which is on December 27th. Yep, we take everything down the very next day after Christmas…lol!

Love the lunch topic!!! Since I have two daughters whose birthday is on Dec. 2nd I didn’t want to take away from their celebration so I don’t decorate until their festivities were over. But not that they ar all grown up with their own homes I put things now and then when I see something I want to bring out but still don’t really do the full decorating until the beginning of Dec.

Hi. I used to work in retail, so I would love to put up my Christmas tree on Thanksgiving day. Usually, it was the only day off I had since the day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest sales days in retail. I started this because of my job, but now, it’s a tradition. Although this year, I lost my job due to bankruptcy, so I am actually wanting to put it up sooner….:>

We use to start on Thanksgiving Day, since my brother fixes the Thanksgiving meal at his house, but I decided……why not start earlier. There is so much to do and we have a Christmas Open House kick off the first Sunday in Dec. Since we have, at least, one tree for every room in the house, approx. 21 trees, starting earlier has been better (especially since I’m getting older) but the outside decorations don’t go on until the weekend of Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to ALL!!!

I typically put up my Christmas tree on Thanksgiving Day. While we are all miserably full from overstuffing our faces with yummy turkey and the sides, I put up the tree, hang ornaments and decorations and get myself in the “Christmas Spirit”. However, this year was different.
I started the shopping early. Wayyyyy early in fact. So early, I had Christmas presents in the summer! I put most of them in the top of my closet, but this past weekend I had had enough, and was ready for Christmas!
The Halloween decorations came down, and the Christmas tree went up!
I decorated my tree on Sunday night. I love my tree, as it is all black, silver, white, clear and sparkly! Every year after the holidays, I go crazy and shop clearance for Christmas ornaments and decorations, and even little gifts for Dirty Santa the next year, my daughter’s teachers, etc. (My favorite–shopping clearance at Target!) So my tree is covered in ornaments. I bought my prelit beauty the day after Thanksgiving on Black Friday. Yes, I was one of the insane ones up at 4 am fighting the mob at Wally World. And I got my tree, lights and all, for $10. I think next year I will have to upgrade, but it works for me and my daughter.
So move over Thanksgiving, Christmas is on it’s way, and I am ready!

It sounds like you all have a wonderful working environment. That is awesome! How fun to share ideas over lunch. As for decorating, traditionally, I wait to decorate for Christmas til December. I have quite a collection of snowman, so they usually stay up until March because I LOVE winter. The tree comes down after the first of the year. Love the idea of the donated tree too!!

I used to have decorations up before Thanksgiving, but 19 years ago my son was born on November 25th. Since then we have strict instructions from him that no Christmas can go up until after his birthday. (Good thing he was not born on December 24th
)
As for Hoiliday music, I start listening to it on October 1st. I love the sounds of Christmas.
I buy stuff to make Christmas all year long and I am as usual I’m still trying to get it all done. At least the cards are done early this year. But I am sitting here at work wishing I could go home and sew instead. Happy Holiday everyone!

We don’t really have a date to decorate that house and tree for Christmas, my brothers birthday is the 10 and usually some time after that. now that I’m married, I’m ready to put everything out right after thanksgiving. doesn’t always work out but I’m getting in the spirit.

I think Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday and because it involves no retail insanity, it is often shuffled under the rug. I don’t decorate my home for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I love to start decorating right after Thanksgiving. Never mind that it takes me three days to get the lights on the tree “just so.” Or that my tree is nearly dead by Christmas. But I love the smell that a real tree provides, I love sitting in my living room with all the lights in the house turned out – except the tree lights – and I love walking in my front door and being overwhelmed with nostalgia and amazing holiday memories as soon as I see my house all decked out.

I like to get outside lights up and ready in November but won’t turn them on until after Thanksgiving. I never decorate before Thanksgiving is over. What’s the rush? Christmas is such a special time. Bumping it into fall just feels wrong. I can’t stand seeing Christmas stuff in Costco in September. Like you said, “strong feelings”!
And, my decorations have always been pink and green – no red:)

Very cool prize package! I guess I’m pretty boring and traditional in this aspect, generally decorating the weekend or week after Thanksgiving, depending on our travels. Last year, however, I had a newborn and the only decor we had up was our pre-lit tree. And I didn’t even put that up! My mom did it while she was here helping care for me and my new daughter. This year, I plan to make up for it, though, with handcrafted touches in every room!

I usually drag out the christmas music and twinkle lights on the weekend of hunting opener, when hubby isn’t around to protest. This year it was just this past weekend. A bit early for some, but I prefer to enjoy the music and twinkle lights well before the bustle of the holiday as opposed to after. Beautiful crafty stuff……I LOVE K & Company!!!!!!

After December 7. Why that date you ask? Well my son’s birthday is December 7th and when he was little we always had family and friends over to celebrate. Having a birthday so close to Christmas can be a challenge so I always wanted to keep the two days as different celebrations. Birthday decorations up for the birthday party, then Christmas decorations up for the holidays. This December 7th my little boy will be 30 years old (have no idea how that happened so fast) and has a little boy of his own. Thank you for the opportunity to win. I’m a HUGE Cosmo Cricket fan!

That is so wonderful that you all eat lunch together! At my job, I can barely get a coworker to point the way to a place to eat, you are lucky lucky women! As for me, I have always been a post-Thanksgiving decorate kind of girl, but now being involved the the paper crafting industry, I am all sorts of confused. I’ve been making spring time cards, so that has me all out of whack, and then I see all this gorgeous Christmas stuff on blogs that makes me want to decorate. Right now! I may be changing my ways quite soon!

Family tradition since I was a wee babe was that the Christmas tree and other decorations went up on either Thanksgiving or my birthday – whichever came first. Now that I have my own family we have kept that tradition and added in dh’s family tradition of it all coming down on New Years Day.

It would have to be Thanksgiving weekend. We have the Thanksgiving decos up until then and the weekend after we have a huge Christmas party. We have friends drive from up to 12 hours just for the party. It’s our way to keep in touch with all the people in our lives who otherwise might move on and you never hear from them again. We do this in the summer too! (It’s also a good way to get the house clean twice a year LOL.)

We start decorating December 1st. The tree goes up what ever weekend is before December 18…daughter’s birthday…need the tree for the party, but no packages with Christmas paper alowed. :O) But, Christmas Cookies start the weekend after Halloween and continue every weekend until Christmas. That’s ALOT of cookies.

We still get a live tree every year so that part–tree trimming is around 2 weeks before Christmas. I do put out a few things before then to get in the spirit. Right after Thanksgiving one Atlanta radio station plays all Christmas music till Dec. 25. I drive my family crazy playing that station when we are in the car. Christmas is my favorite holiday so I still act like a kid about every phase of the celebration. The goodies look luscious. Thanks for the chance to win.

Sorry, but I just can’t start decorating before the day after Thanksgiving…I know, I know, there’s a lot to do, and a short amount of time, but I just can’t bring myself to do it before then…seems like we need to have one holiday at a time. Besides, I always leave my decor up until at least Jan. 6, because that’s my birthday, and I love having the decor up for my birthday…we’ve been doing that in my family since I was little!

I probably won’t be starting to decorate for Xmas till the Monday after thanksgiving. I need the weekend after thanksgiving to relax and do some Black Friday shopping. So probably that Monday will do. Last year I did it all on Black friday, since I was already up at the crack of dawn and done with shopping before noon…:)

The SECOND the last dish has been put away after Thanksgiving dinner. No, not really, but traditionally Thanksgiving weekend is when family and friends go out after the perfect Christmas tree. That isn’t put up and decorated until Dec 10th, but all the other Christmas decorations have been set out to enjoy.

Oh wonderful eye candy. I don’t decorate if I decorate until at least a week or two before Christmas. So this year it could be either December 12 or December 19 before I put a tree etc. I have already started my Christmas cards which is a big plus for me this year.

We start looking for our decorations the last week in November and put them up the first day of December, that way we can enjoy them longer, everything gets put away on January the 7th.

Well, I’m a traditionalist when it comes to decorating. No Christmas until after Thanksgiving!!! My DH will put up the outside lights usually the weekend after Thanksgiving and we will spend the next couple of nights putting out all the Christmas decorations that will stay up until after Epiphany. I like the idea of your lunch bunch, at my school, there’s a certain group of us who always eat together and it’s been going on for over 15 years. The core of the group has stayed the same. It’s great fun!

If I worked with this group of creative ladies, I’d have lunch together too! I can’t wait to see your tree for Festival of Trees. I might be in Utah around then so maybe I’ll get to see it in person.
I start decorating my home the day after Thanksgiving. I do most of it that day but continue to put out finishing touches until Christmas Eve. I also love to leave it up as long as I can. My grandma’s birthday was in the middle of January and she didn’t take down her decs until after her birthday!
Blessings,
Christine

We always wait until Thanksgiving day before we put up the Christmas decorations. Well, really it works out like this: We stuff ourselves full of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, pumpkin pie, etc. Then, we plop our bloated selves on the couch and look at the boxes of Christmas decorations. And, then we decide to wait until the next day to tackle that job…when we’re not so full. So, really my answer would be the day after Thanksgiving.

One December is our official date for decorating and sending out christmas cards. This year, we are off to the beach for Christmas, so our decorations will be smaller and we have to leave a note to tell Santa where we are LOL!

My dad is pretty strict about Christmas he does really like it so we can’t decorte until the begining of the month. But I think I would start a little earlier if I could. I already have most of my Christmas cards made and have started making Christmas presents. I just can’t stand that I walked into micheal’s the other day and we are already listening to Christmas music. If I wanted to listen to it early I can at home I don’t want to listen to it at the store it stresses me out more making me feel like I should be done christmas shopping.

Festival of Trees – how interesting – I am participating in a Festival of Trees here in Colorado Springs on 11/21 and 11/22. Ours benefits a local food bank, community services organization called ESM. I will be offering my handcrafted cards and other goodies during the time the tree display is open to the public for viewing. I think they will have a couple of dozen trees on display. As far as my own decorating goes I never decorate before Thanksgiving and usually wait until about the second week of December.
Enjoy your own Festival of Trees and I hope you make a ton of money.

After we come home from my in-laws house on Thanksgiving, I start pulling the boxes of christmas stuff out to start decorating with. By the time the kids wake up in the morning, the house is christmas-fied.

We my put lights on the house on a warm day in november, but DO NOT TRUN THEM ON UNTIL THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING. The tree and other stuff comes out the day after thanksgivings also. Christmas does not start also until the day after thanksgivings and every thing comes down January 1. and i mean everything.

We wait with decorating the Christmas tree and other decorations till Sint Nicolas has gone back to Spain on the 6th of December. Sint Nicolas is such a lovely Dutch tradition that I don’t want to miss and I can’t have both decorations out at the same time.

I lived in Italy for a long time, and their big Christmas season is Christmas Eve to 12th night, or Epiphany, when the three kings arrive. The traditional twelve days of Christmas! The major gifts were also exchanged on Epiphany as this is when the magi gave their gifts.
So needless to say I am not an early decorator! Usually around mid-December, because I like it all to stay up until Ephiphany!

I think it is ok to decorate your home for Christmas whenever you feel like it!
There have been years it has been Nov 1st for me and there have been years it has been December 19th!
I usually try to do it right after Thanksgiving Dinner most years.

We don’t start to decorate the house till The beginning of December. We have a tradition in our house to decorate the Christmas tree the day prior to Christmas Eve or on Christmas eve itself. Christmas is my second favorite holiday. In reality, I make Christmas decorations all year long. Besides scrapbooking and cardmaking, I am also a Decorative painter. When do I put my decorations up?? In the beginning of November, so that the house is completely “Holidazed” by Thanksgiving. I always keep them up until the middle of January. (In reality, some of my favorites are up until someone complains that it is summer and we still have Christmas up.)

I love Christmas! We usually decorate our house on Thanksgiving Day after we have eaten and enjoyed our turkey. It gives us something to do for the rest of the day, but it does take us all weekend to get it done.

I always go for the Sat or Sun after Thanksgiving since we have an artifical tree. I must say, back in the day when we had a real tree, it was always only two weeks before Christmas simply because the needles never lasted very long!

As we do not celebrate Thanksgiving in NewZealand there is no other event prior to christmas. But usually we start on the 1st of December. I must admit though I already put my Christmas boxes out and might start a wee bit early… maybe next weekend – I know I know;p Slowly, bit by bit – doing the artificial christmas tree last. Just because I love the season so much.
Back in my childhood – in Germany- we would go fell our Christmas tree from the farm the day before Christmas Eve. Then we would put it up and decorate it on Christmas Eve in the morning and in the evening time magically we would find presents under it. Unlike here in NewZealand where some presents live happily under the tree for a few weeks.

Even though I try to have the Christmas shopping and Christmas letters/cards done before Thanksgiving, I don’t actually break out the decorations until after Thanksgiving. That way I can try to relax (whilst still attending all the crazy events that happen in December).

We have so many decorations that it takes a few days to put them up! My aunt comes to visit on Thanksgiving so we usually try to have everything up by then so she can see it all. Christmas is a big deal at my house and we want as much time as possible to enjoy all the trimmings. Thanksgiving is celebrated at Grandma and Grandad’s house, so it’s not like the two holidays collide.

We always start decorating on the Friday after Thanksgiving–my son and DH haul out all of the outdoor decorations while my daughter and I begin work on the indoor stuff. I usually don’t decorate until after Thanksgiving. But I might change that this year. The last couple of years we’ve lived in an apartment and all our Christmas stuff was in another location. Even though it seems like the retail stores are starting their Christmas decorating earlier and earlier each year we don’t start decorating until the 1st week in December. We used to decorate the entire house (indoors and out) as well as put up the tree all in one week but it was exhausting. Now we break it up into smaller parts throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas and we all enjoy it much more. It gives us time to slow down and truly enjoy the magic and spirit of the holiday.

One of my most favorite decorations is to put a candle in each window of our home. Our tradition is to turn them on as well as the rope lighting along the roofline for the first time as it gets dark on Thanksgiving evening. The rest of the decorating just gets done whenever, but usually the first part of December.
Great prize, thanks for a chance to win!!

I see from a lot of comments that I fall into the Thanksgiving time frame. I usually put my tree up the week end after, BUT my outdoor decorations go up anytime in November when the weather is warm. Wow I really love K&company products.
Thanks for the chance to win the give-away.
I don’t have a set day to start decorating for Christmas. I go by my moods and gradually bring the bling out. Then it is not a big job all at once and it is part of the winter season not just about Christmas Day. They are separate subjects to decorate for. I love this time of year so I like to savor everything about it and make it last.

I begin preparing after Rememberance Day (in Canada Nov.11) but I don’t do the actual decorating extravaganza until the first weekend of December. Then it’s an all out event with the Christmas music, snacks, and cider. Every room gets hit with some festive touches. Thanks for the chance to win the great K&Company products. I think decorating anytime before Thanksgiving is too soon. Ever since I was little my parents always put up Christmas decorations on my birthday which is Dec 4. So it is tradition now for my family to get the Christmas tree all set up on my birthday. It’s a fun way to celebrate your birthday!

When my children were growing up, we always went out on Thanksgiving weekend to pick out our tree. We went to cut it about 2 weeks before Christmas. One year we put it up earlier and it got dangerously dry! Scary–so that year we had 2 trees–not as much fun taking all the decorations off and putting back on the 2nd time! Artificial tree now and decorating is always after Thanksgiving is done!

The gift shop litterally throws itself at my house for Christmas! I love it and all the holiday brings. The warmth, friends, family and happiness in giving. Decorations begin to come out about now and finish with stage 1 by Thanksgiving. Then the tree is put up a couple of weeks before Christmas, fresh cut preferred. If I am having Thanksgiving, I do hold back so as not to shortchange the holiday. Oh, have to go get some decorations out and get some cookies baking! Merry Christmas!

I put out the decorations the Friday after Thanksgiving. My new husband was a bit reluctant about that, but last night said he was ready for the holidays, so I guess he has gotten into the spirit of things!

Oooh! lime, red, and hot pink! I love it! Can’t wait to see hwat your tree looks like. As long as I can convince my husband to start dragging stuff down from the loft, usually the thanksgiving weekend …sometimes even BEFORE if we aren’t hosting thanksgiving dinner. That K&Co set is gorgeous! THank you for the opportunity to win some

My husband proposed to me by placing my engagement ring on the branch of the tree we were decorating… So for us, Christmas decorations go up on December 2nd (the Anniversary of that awesome proposal!)… I always love your posts… Thanks!

I love Christmas so I usually like to start decorating on Thanksgiving weekend. We’re traveling the first week of December this year so I have to wait to decorate until we get back. Two years ago we decorated before we left for a long weekend and our kitties had a field day while we were gone. The tree was knocked over and some of the ornaments looked like they had been used as soccer balls. Lesson learned.

In order to get some joy out of all that holiday decorating, I decorate on Thanksgiving. This way I can enjoy all my hard work for a month before I have to put it up (the most dreaded part).

I always put something up just after Dec. 1st. For me Dec. is Christmas month and anytime after it starts is a great time to start decorating and begin enjoying the season.

We usually begin decorating about the first weekend in December. But we begin purchasing our items after Thanksgiving in preparation for the that day.

I’ll put up some lights in the windows at december 1th – and then wait. We’re always chopping our own tree, so if we put it up too early, it will be ugly when finally Christmas. So we’ll put up the decorations the last weekend before Christmas eve – very Scandinavian.
I love the stuff you bought at IKEA. Maybe because I bought some of the same items last weekend. *lol*

The Christmas china comes out Thanksgiving night after Thanksgiving guests have left and the house is straightened. The tree goes up and the house is decorated on Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

We usually start decorating about the 2nd week in December. But with a toddler I’ve already started making Christmas crafts (like little snowmen)!

I would love to start at Halloween… I love Christmas and love to decorate. But sadly we start after Thanksgiving. The lights, the tree, the baking and most of all the time with family. Thanks for the Blog Candy.

My daughter’s birthday is Dec 8, so we wait until after she has her party, then decorate for Christmas.

I begin decorating on the weekend after Thanksgiving. We have a large artificial tree and it takes a lot to get it up. I love having the house decorated, so the sooner the better.

I love, love, LOVE the holidays and especially Christmas! I put up 8 decorated trees in my Victorian home – ranging in size from table top to 9′ tall! So I can fully enjoy the season and sit back and relax as much as possible during December, using this precious time to spend with family and friends and hosting fun cookie exchange parties and such, I begin decorating my home a little bit before Thanksgiving! It’s not rare for me to have all of the trees up and decorated on Thanksgiving Day — leaving just the final, large 9′ tree to put up and decorate the day after Thanksgiving. It’s such a special and magical time of the year and I simply like to squeeze every precious second out of it that I can and savor each and every single minute of this joyous time!!!
Happy Holidays to all!!

I decorate for both Halloween and Thanksgiving so I don’t begin to decorate for Christmas until around December 1st. I have one 4′ artificial tree and we purchase a live tree. The live tree is traditionally not purchased until around December 15th at the earliest. We leave it up until January 6th. Then I put out my snowmen to enjoy for the winter.

We always put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving and take it down the second day of the new year. Christmas things start popping up shortly after the tree goes up.

It’s been a family tradition as long as I can remember, and I have passed it on to my daughter…we decorate for Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving…we take down Christmas decorations the first weekend after New Year’s Day.

when i worked outside the home as a teacher we all ate lunch together. i totally miss it now that i’m at home.
as for decorating for christmas — i shoot for about 2 weeks out from christmas. i love the holiday but i try not to get wrapped up in all the “trappings” of the holiday and just enjoy the season, the family and the REASON for the season!

I start decorating around Nov 20th (my oldest’s birthday is just before that so I wait til after his birthday) – winter decorations tend to go up first with the tree up and Christmas stuff out by Dec 1st and then Christmas decorations/tree are down within a few days of Christmas (my youngest’s birthday is early Jan). I tend to leave a few winter/snowmen things out around the house a bit longer.

I start around December 1st. I feel that you can’t just skip over thanksgiving, it needs it own month just like the rest of the big holidays do. The christmas package would be great to win because money has been tight and I LOVE to homemake the family christmas card. It would be a great start to making the christmas cards for this year. Thanks.

We usually start decorating shortly after Thanksgiving. We have tons of Christmas decorations so that gives us enough time to put up a little bit here and there. Of course the decorating isn’t complete until we get out tree! Since we’re in Hawaii and the trees aren’t the freshest by the time they get here, we don’t get our tree until a couple weeks before Christmas. I want to make sure it still smells nice on Christmas day!

I usually start decorating right after my Thanksgiving decorations are put away, which is the weekend after Thanksgiving. I have a TON of Christmas decorations so usually by the second week of December my house is fully decorated for Christmas! Also, I leave my Christmas decorations up until the second week of January! (Christmas is my favorite holiday…I wish I could leave the decorations up all year round! LOL)

I love to decorate for Christmas and usually I put Fall away the day after Thanksgiving. Then, I bring out the Christmas decorations- first the dishes and table wear, inside house decor, and finally, helping my hubby with the outdoor lights. It usually takes me most of the first week of Dec. Then , I do all of my out of town pckges and cards. Last I finish shopping and wrapping for family, bake and plan the meals. The tree goes up one evening during the first week but may not get decorated until the next week.
